Our bodies are challenged and compromised every second of every day through daily activities. Over time our bodies build up tolerances and compensations in order to keep performing. Unless we take the opportunity to take care of our bodies via strength training, massage/bodywork, sleep, etc. there will be a breaking point and an increased risk of injuries and illnesses.
It’s important to understand the benefits of massage/bodywork in order to maintain healthy and optimal movement. If we are breaking down our bodies, it is important to build it back up through recovery and rehabilitation. Massage/bodywork is one of the most beneficial and effective tools one can gift oneself.
For me, knowledge is power. The more I know and grow in skill and technique, the better I can assist my clients. Because of this, I have multiple expertise and education as a licensed physical therapist assistant (since 2014), a strength training coach (since 2017), and a licensed massage therapist (since 2022).
I work with the general public to elite level athletes. Because I am an athlete myself (competitive powerlifter), I understand the importance as an athlete of not only maintaining a healthy functioning body to perform optimally and the aches and pains of training, but the importance of longevity as an athlete.
Picking a quality massage therapist is important in order for the massage to be effective. Not every massage therapist is a perfect fit for you, nor should you assume they are. Every massage therapist has certain touch, personality, technique(s), education level, and background in order to better assist your needs. It is important to research your massage therapist in order to make sure they are a good fit for you.
About Erica
Freedom Bodyworks Company has been a long time coming! Erica began her career in aviation after receiving her B.S. from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in 2007. After years of working in an unfulfilled job, she decided to transition to the medical field where she felt she could better serve her community. Erica received her physical therapist assistant license in 2013 and has been working acute, subacute, and inpatient rehab with patients of various diagnosis from orthopedic to neurological to cardiac and pulmonary.
Meanwhile, she loved her hobby and sport of powerlifting and has been a competitive powerlifter since 2014 when she entered her first meet. Over years of competing, she decided to open up her own private gym in 2018 to other powerlifters, become a certified club coach through her powerlifting federation, and coach on the side while still working full time. From there, it grew to coaching athletes of various sports as well as the general population for health and wellness. It didn’t take long before she realized that being a strength coach and business owner was her calling. She decided to decrease her hours at the hospital and focus on growing her business.
The missing piece was her ability to legally assist her clients with aches and pains even though she had the education to do so through her physical therapy experience. To mitigate this, she decided to obtain her license as a massage therapist. She fell in love with the skill of massage therapy and all its modalities. She saw the effectiveness of it every time she worked on a client, not only for stress relief, but for injury prevention and rehabilitation. In order to complete the gym package, she also obtained her nutrition coach certification through Performance Nutrition.
Erica strives to continue learning and growing in all aspects of her life. With the combination of Physical Therapy, Massage Therapy, Nutrition, and Powerlifting knowledge, Erica has grown as an athlete, powerlifting coach, strength coach, and has equally been able to apply knowledge of all subjects to positively impact her clients and her community.
